Ideal Measurements

My fitness goals have changed over the years, and my current plan looks very little like the one I started with several years ago. I never had a set of ideal body measurements that I could work toward though. What makes a body a perfect body? As with numerous people, my thoughts of the perfect body meant larger muscles. But larger muscles are not inherently attractive to everybody. If that were true, then Hollywood stars would all be bodybuilders. For example, such is not even close to reality when you realize that Taylor Lautner, one of the A-list of Hollywood hot bodies, is so lean and perfectly defined like an Abercrombie model. Thus, what are your ideal body measurements? Below I describe how to get the perfect body.

I’ve decided to customize this towards the male perspective since men usually have a harder time determining what is appealing to others and how to set the proper goals to reach that point. Women might just want to check out a Victoria Secret models workout. I think a lot of people are finally coming around to the fact that bigger isn’t always better.

When I was starting out, I would spend hours looking at any number of bodybuilding sites in an effort to understand what my ideal measurements should be. I quickly figured out that these pages won’t help you identify the proper shape. According to bodybuilding legend Steve Reeve’s calculator, my chest would have to be upwards of 50”. My waist should be around 30”. Basically, if I were to abide by this, I would need to increase the muscle mass of my chest such that it would become larger than the present size of my shoulders. That doesn’t seem like a reasonable goal, especially if I’m also supposed to maintain a 30” waist and visible abs. But to be fair, the ideal bodybuilder weight for someone of my stature is 175 pounds. Regardless, if I had these measurements I think that I would make a great cartoon character.

The approach defined by John McCallum is much more reasonable. Let’s look at the results of his calculator, given both my target and true measurements.

The numbers it returns are meant for competitive bodybuilders, but they can serve as a first goal towards the ideal shape for regular guys like myself as well. What McCallum suggested was that I should bulk up the most at my biceps, add some bulk to my chest and legs, and keep working to remove some of the fat from my waist and hips. But would having these measurements mean that I am better looking?

The best fitness tips I’ve found when it comes to ideal measurements is the Adonis Effect. The program was designed specifically around research that shows what body type women, and other men, find most attractive. What the researchers discovered was that the most attractive forms were those that had the same shoulder to waist ratio, dubbed the golden ratio, and this then is the goal that you should set for yourself. This golden ratio is 1.618. In addition, your waist measurement ought to be 45 percent of your height. One of the best parts about the Adonis Effect program is that it not only provides you with the numbers for a perfect body, but it also supplies you with a plan to follow to help you reach these measurements.

My “perfect” measurements are 30.5 inches for my waist and 49.5 inches for my shoulders. My waist is already close to this target number, so all I need to do is add some muscle mass to my shoulders. This sounds like the best suggestion I’ve had so far, as I can imagine the good v-shape that would give me if I were to reach these goals.

In conclusion, ideal body measurements are very difficult to define. In reality, it is your own personal opinion which determines what you think to be ideal. In addition, ideal body measurements are extremely elusive. When you have a long way to go to get there, everything may appear to be unrealistic. Don’t be discouraged though – realize that if you start slowly and keep working at it, you can reach your goal, though it won’t happen quickly. If you need extra help with how to get the perfect body, the Adonis Effect includes a diet and exercise plan to help you on your way.
